Contractors are putting finishing touches on New Hanover County‘s first green roof, located at 320 Chestnut Street in Wilmington, NC. As part of the major building renovation, New Hanover County chose to plant a roof garden to extend the usefulness of the new roof membrane, to provide natural cooling, and to reduce the environmental and financial costs of stormwater runoff.
Given the site’s proximity to the coast, mitigation of wind uplift was a priority for the design and construction team. Therefore, the LiveRoof system’s patent-pending WindDisc system was selected for the project. Riverbend Nursery custom grew the LiveRoof modules within 300 miles of the building site, using plants trialed and proven for performance in the local climate.
