As part of their initiative to reduce the urban heat island effect, the Army has installed a 5,000 module LiveRoof green roof on their Fort Bragg Installation Transportation Deployment Support Area. This is the fort’s first such roof and is part of a $13.4 million project.
By utilizing a plant pallet that includes sedums like Dragons Blood, Corral Carpet, and Immergrunchen Fort Bragg is able to reduce their energy demands by between 25%-50%. In addition to reducing the energy demands of the facility the LiveRoof system will help to mitigate storm water runoff and provide habitable land for many organisms.
