Required Skills:

The Database Administrator programs and maintains Microsoft Access database projects used by Hortech and Hortech’s subsidiary companies for such tasks as order entry, inventory management, production scheduling and more. Responsibilities include creating and updating forms, reports, and queries that meet the user’s needs related to their jobs with a strong emphasis on accuracy. He/She will be proficient in the use of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and in trouble shooting issues with VBA code including code written by others, often with little to no documentation. He/She, as the Database Administrator, is service minded and values working collaboratively as a team, on-site, with a traditional Monday- Friday work week to be available, responsive, and supportive of colleagues and customers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Executes updates and enhancements to Access-based tickets and projects.
  • Supports the modernization of the company’s ERP system, often aiding in development and training to ensure a smooth transition and adoption.
  • Responds swiftly and accurately to requests for analytics or development support.
  • Contributes to the IT Department Knowledge Base with articles on ticket resolutions, project updates, and procedural guides.
  • Possesses a strong interest in horticulture and demonstrates a commitment to collaborative teamwork.
  • Consistently completes weekly, monthly, and annual scheduled tasks on time, aiming to increase the effectiveness and profitability of Hortech and its subsidiaries.
  • Works to optimize computer usage efficiency, both for the company and in individual performance.
  • Promptly addresses urgent database issues, providing after-hours support when necessary.
  • Manages a variety of help desk tasks and provides support to the IT Manager with troubleshooting, user assistance, and system maintenance as needed.
  • Performs CRM data entry, maintenance, analytics, and development functions.
  • Serve as the resident database architect – identifying, managing, and executing large-scale database projects that ensure the accuracy and consistency of data for effective reporting and analysis

Essential Functions:

  • Extensive experience creating and maintaining Access Databases including the use of Visual Basic For Applications and SQL.
  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting and debugging.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Access and Excel.
  • Excellent project management and problem-solving skills; the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects under varying deadlines with a commitment to accuracy.
  • Highly organized with the ability to thrive under pressure and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Proven experience in a collaborative environment with peers and customers.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License, and eligible for company motor vehicle insurance.
  • Knows our product line and is aware of how accurate information and efficient information affects the effectiveness of our production, sales, shipping, and customer service personnel.
  • Understands, embraces, implements and effectively lead concepts of Lean Systems.
  • Continues education and develops specific knowledge as it relates to database management.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • SuiteCRM / SugarCRM maintenance
  • Experience with code repositories and version control systems
  • Azure development and cloud service expertise
  • API design and development
  • Proficiency in HTML, WordPress, and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of Node.js for server-side scripting
  • PHP development experience
