Why Do a Green Roof? Feature Project

Flora Chicago - Chicago, IL

by LiveRoof® LLC

This month, we’re highlighting Flora Chicago, a thoughtfully designed condominium building located in the vibrant Fulton Market neighborhood of Chicago, IL. This stunning LiveRoof® installation is visible from most units and surrounding buildings, serving as both a visual delight and a testament to the benefits of green roofing.

A Blend of Systems for Distinct Goals

The Flora Chicago project features a combination of LiveRoof® Standard and Deep systems, showcasing how these systems can be utilized to meet diverse objectives.

Upper Roof (Standard System):

  • This area, while not accessible, is visible from surrounding buildings and addresses key environmental needs. Designed to meet City of Chicago requirements, it helps mitigate stormwater runoff, reduce the urban heat island effect, and enhance green space in the cityscape.

Level 3 Roof (Deep System):

  • Although this roof is also non-accessible, it boasts an eye-catching design visible to building residents. This area highlights Anemone, Calamagrostis, Sporobolus, and Carex varieties, delivering vibrant textures and colors across three seasons. RoofStone™ pavers border the LiveRoof® installation, minimizing the need for edging and enhancing the overall aesthetics.

Visionary Collaboration

This green roof project was brought to life by Confluence Landscape Architecture, with the LiveRoof® system chosen to support goals of stormwater management, insulation, habitat creation, air quality improvement, and aesthetic appeal.
